Gordon Gibson

May 20, 1941 — December 13, 2014

A memorial service for Gordon Stewart Gibson, 73, will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming. He passed away on December 13, 2014 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming after a short illness. Gordon was born on May 20, 1941 to Gleda (Gordon) and Harold Gibson. He was an only child. Gordon attended school in Lyons, Kansas and graduated from Lyons High School in 1959. He attended Kansas State University in Manhattan Kansas and Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. He was drafted into the United States Army on January 18, 1966. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on January 17, 1972. Gordon grew up in Lyons, Kansas and moved to Russell, Kansas after returning from Vietnam. He moved to Wyoming in January of 1968. He met Shirley Ray Skogen in 1969 and they were married in September of 1970. Shirley brought two daughters to this union, Penny and Cindy. Together they had one daughter, Brandi J. Gordon was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW and American Legion. In May of 1986 he moved back to his home town of Lyons to be closer to his mother. He returned to Casper, WY in 1991. Wyoming was home to him and he loved living here and working in the oilfield. He worked for Bovard Supply, Anderson-Meyers Drilling, Guardian Inspection and Al's Rig service. He owned and operated Oil Patch Sales and Rentals of Wyoming Inc. Gordon was an avid dog lover and always had a companion dog of some kind. He enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, barbequing, drinking Miller Lite beer, watching professional football and is grandsons playing high school football. Gordon will be remembered for his sense of humor, the many stories he told and keeping in touch with his many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his father Harold, mother Gleda and wife Shirley on Aug. 21, 1993. He is survived by his daughters, Penny Gibson of Houston, TX, Brandi (Ken) Rowe of Glenrock, WY, Grandchildren Derrick, Dillon and Jaylee Rowe of Glenrock, WY. He was going to be a great grandpa for the first time in May of 2015. He is also survived by his dog, Tony. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be sent in his memory to Coronado - Quiveria museum Lyons, KS.
