Glen Wilson

Glen Douglas "Doug" Wilson, 84, passed away May 20, 2016 at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper, Wyoming. Doug was born December 21, 1931, to Glen and Ruth (Vail) Wilson in Jackson, Wyoming. Doug was very proud of his deep roots in the Jackson Hole Valley. Doug's grandfather Charlie Wilson was a nephew of Elijah "Uncle Nick" Wilson, who is well known for being an early pioneer in the valley. Doug grew up working and playing on his grandparent's ranch on the edge of Jackson. He was an all-around athlete in school graduating from Jackson High School in 1950. He attended Montana State University in Bozeman on a football scholarship until September 1951, when he was drafted into the US Marine Corps during the Korean war. He served his country until September of 1954, at which time he was honorably discharged. After his discharge from the military, he married Diana Hewitt and they had one daughter. They were later divorced. Doug was blessed to have the opportunity to know his daughter and her family after she was grown. In 1957, he married Wanda Mae "Metty" Foster in Jackson. Together they had 5 children and resided mainly in the Wilson and Jackson area. Doug worked in construction and his involvement in building the imaginative Teton Mystery in Jackson was one his proudest accomplishments. He was also a guide and ranch hand for Metty's folks, guiding hunters and feeding cattle and elk on the ranch. Eventually, Doug started Mountain Construction Company where he specialized in home building, concrete work, and excavation. In 1973, Doug moved his family to the Pavillion area where he farmed while he continued to operate Mountain Construction Company. In his later years, Doug drove school bus for the local school districts. He especially enjoyed driving the activity bus to sporting events to watch the kids play and the bus to Teton Village for ski trips. The couple divorced in later years. In his younger days, Doug enjoyed riding his horses, hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. Without as many mouths to feed in his later years, he chose not to hunt any longer but still enjoyed camping, riding his ATV, and spending time with family. Doug's eldest son moved in with him several years ago and the two took care of each other until his death. Doug is survived by his children: Shawn Otte (Brad Wiberg) of Wahoo, NE; Franklyn Nick Wilson of Pavillion, WY; Kathy Wilson of Riverton, WY; Wade Wilson (Diana) of Phoenix, AZ; Laura Leseberg (Bob) of Thermopolis, WY; Charles Wilson of Riverton, WY; sisters: Sally Dalton of Fairview, UT; Glenna Heller of Soquel, CA; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doug is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Charlotte Podesta. Per Doug's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral services are planned. Interment will take place at later date in the South Park Cemetery in Jackson, WY. Memorials may be made to Veteran's programs of the donor's choice.
