Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve Helen Horner will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church by Fr. August Koeune. Viewing will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, June 21, 2010 at Bustard's Funeral Home followed by the Vigil for the Deceased at 7:00 PM. Interment will be at 3:30 PM, Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Calvary Cemetery in Chadron, Nebraska. Genevieve Bass Horner passed away in her daughter's arms at Central Wyoming Hospice on June 13, 2010. She was born November 14, 1922 near Crawford, Nebraska to Harve and Frances Dowling Bass. At an early age, she moved with her parents and brother to a farm near Chadron, Nebraska. She attended the Assumption Academy at Chadron for 12 years, graduating in 1940. She attended Chadron State College for two years until her marriage to Lieutenant Joseph Horner on August 21, 1942. During World War II, they lived in Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas where Joe was stationed until he served in the South Pacific. After the war, they returned to Chadron for a short time where Joe attended college and she worked for the County Clerk's office. Later both she and her husband attended college at the University of Northern Colorado, the University of Nebraska and the University of Wyoming. Genevieve received her B.S. Degree in Education from Kearney State College in 1955. When Genevieve's husband was Registrar and Director of Admissions at Kearney State, she worked as a Receptionist for the College President. She was a church organist in Chadron, Haigler, Oxford and Kearney, Nebraska. From 1970 to 1979, she and her husband owned and operated The Sands Motel in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She was a Camp Fire Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Red Cross volunteer and a member of PEO, Chapter AT. After the death of her husband of 55 years, she moved to Casper to be near her daughter and family. Her grandson, Andrew, was the light of her life. She volunteered at Woods, Pineview and Saint Anthony Tri-Parish schools where many children delighted in reading with Grandma Genevieve. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Harve Bass, one brother, Richard, and her beloved husband, Joe. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jo Keeran, son-in-law, Jim Keeran and grandson, Andrew Keeran. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
