Gary Riegert

Gary Lee Riegert was born February 12, 1942 in Riverton, WY and died in Casper, WY on April 11, 2016 of natural causes. He was born to Helen Alice (Schamber) Riegert and David Riegert, Jr., and resided on the family farm in the Missouri Valley area between Riverton and Shoshoni, WY where he lived for 32 years. He lived and worked along sided his parents and sisters, Norma and Judy on the family farm. He graduated from Shoshoni High School in 1960. After graduating high school, he attended Billing Business College working toward a degree in Accounting. While on Christmas break from college December of 1960, he met his wife of 54 years, Mary Elizabeth Coats through his sister, Judy. After attending a basketball game, they became best friends. The two married on August 5, 1961. After getting married, the two returned to Billings, MT for Gary to finish college. While in Billings, Gary also worked for Americana Homes part-time doing some drafting work for his cousin Mona's husband, Jim Thompson. The untimely death of Gary's father, David Riegert, Jr. on July 2, 1962 brought Gary and Mary back to the family farm to help his mother, Helen on the farm where the two lived until 1971. While living on the farm, the three oldest children were born. David William was born in 1962, Myra Lynn in 1963, and Lorelei Ann in 1965. While on the farm, he also worked for the Shoshoni Garage and worked on equipment in Riverton, WY. After leaving the farm in December 1971, he moved his family to Jeffery City, WY where he worked for his father-in-law, Bill Coats for Coats and Sons Motor Company. While in Jeffery City, WY the family added sons, Shawn Lewis and Jason Eugene in March of 1974. While in Jeffery City, he enjoyed fishing the Sweetwater River, camping on Green Mountain and exploring the area with the family. In August 1974, he moved is family to Casper, WY. He worked for Hot Springs R.E.A. later named High Plains Power in Casper, WY until his retirement in 2004. He worked as a mechanic, fabricator, equipment operator, warehouse manager and drafted power lines for the company. After moving to Casper, he built his family home as well as other homes and buildings in the area. He resided at his home on Blair Lane until his death. While living in Casper, in August of 1975, his youngest son, Michael Robert, was surprisingly added to the family tree. Shortly after moving to Casper, the family attended services at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. In 1980 the family moved to Boyd Ave Baptist Church in Casper where he was an active member until his death. He enjoyed teaching Sunday school and RA's. singing in the choir, being active in the V Group as well as other activities at the church. He loved his church family very much. He and his wife also hosted exchange students from Mexico, Brazil, and Japan. He also traveled to share our great country with exchange students. During his free time and late at night, he enjoyed applying paint to canvas. He crafted many marvelous works that grace the walls of many homes and offices across the nation. The topic of most of the paintings is the Teton Mountain range. He also enjoyed helping various family members with their vehicles and trouble shooting various projects. He was a resource to all his family and friends. After retiring in 2004, he loved traveling to see friends and family; and he enjoyed creating new works of art. He enjoyed watching Nascar and supported Jeff Gordon #24. He also enjoyed working as a board member for the Wardwell Water Service until his death. He loved teasing and joking with family and friends alike. He had a love of all that he would meet. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Elizabeth Coats Riegert, son, David William Riegert (Valerie), daughter, Myra Lynn Deobald (John L.), son Shawn Lewis Riegert (Tomi), son, Jason Eugene Riegert (Joanna), and son, Michael Robert Riegert (Mary), his sisters, Norma Jean Wolff (Ike), and Judy Kay Tibesar (Jack), twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lorelei Ann Russell, his parents David Riegert, Jr., mother, Helen Alice (Schamber) Riegert, two granddaughters and one great-grandson. Services are planned for Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Boyd Avenue Baptist Church.
