Frieda Missel

July 20, 1920 — June 28, 2015

Frieda Irene Taubert Missel, a long-time resident of Casper, Wyoming, died peacefully on the evening of June 28, 2015, her family by her side at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Frieda was born in Fort Laramie, Wyoming on July 20, 1920. She graduated as valedictorian of the Fort Laramie High School's class of 1938 before attending the University of Wyoming, where she pledged as a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Frieda then moved to Denver to study at the Barnes School of Business, then to Cheyenne to work as a private secretary to Verda James - Wyoming State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Her life in Cheyenne also led her to meet her future husband, Walter George Missel, at FE Warren Air Force Base. The two married upon his return from World War II, in 1945. Frieda and Walt moved to Casper in 1945, where they raised their three children. In Casper, Frieda worked in the family businesses with Walt, along with her father, C.W. Taubert and brother, Lou Taubert. Ever prideful of her Taubert family roots in Fort Laramie, Frieda handled the financial work for the Missel Ranch, a task she sustained until her death. She also began volunteering for Meals on Wheels while in Casper, an endeavor Frieda sustained for the next fifty years. Additionally, she was a fifty year member of PEO Chapter O in Casper. Besides being a loving wife and mother, Frieda was a perfect grandmother. Love of family was the genesis of her greatest joy, taking her across the country for rodeos, horse shows, track meets, baseball and basketball games, among other events involving her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a model of generosity, kindness and love. Frieda is preceded in death by her husband (Walter George Missel), her second husband (Lowell Rymill), her mother and father (Catherine Maggie and C.W. Taubert), and brother (Louis Taubert Sr.). She is survived by her children, Louis (Peggy) Missel, Catherine (David) Engels, and Peggy (Sam) Wagner, and her grandchildren, upon whom she adored with such joy, Jackson Engels (Suzanne), Kelly (Jacob) Lieb, Maggie (Jamie)Myers, Louis Engels (Sarabeth), Lindsey Missel, Samantha Wagner, and Taylor Wagner. Frieda is also survived by her great grandchildren, Bridger Engels, Rosalie Engels, Kassidie Myers, and Leo Engels. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, at First Presbyterian Church, 804 South Walcott Street, Casper, WY. Frieda will be interned alongside her beloved husband, Walter George Missel, in the Historic Fort Laramie Wyoming Cemetery. Donations to honor Frieda may be made to the Natrona County Meals on Wheels, Fort Laramie Fire Department, or the Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church.
