Fern (Gibbs) Shiermeyer-Olsen died at Shepard of the Valley nursing home on September 22, 2016. Fern was born February 13, 1923, in Casper, Wyoming, to John H. "Jack" Gibbs and Bessie Capps Gibbs. She attended local schools, graduating from NCHS in 1941. She married Charles Schiermeyer of Leavenworth, Kansas, at the First Presbyterian Church of Corpus Christi, while he was stationed there while in the Navy. She received an Associate's Degree from Casper College, and graduated from UW in 1967 with a BA in Elementary Education. She taught for Natrona County School District for 21 years. Fern was active in the community, as a Senior Girl Scout Leader, Home Demonstration Club of Natrona County Agriculture, a member of Departmental Club (arts division), Business & Professional Womens Club, the Casper College Womens choir under the direction of Ava Shields, pianist for the First Presbyterian Church Girls Junior High choir, secretary for the Casper Mountain Beetle Association, (now the Casper Mountain Forest Stewardship Association), was active in the RSVP program for the Natrona County Sheriff's Department. He was a 50 year member of Rebekah Lodge #39, a 50 year member and past Worthy Matron of Fort Casper Chapter 4 order of the Eastern Star, and the social sorority Kappa Kappa Iota for teachers, and National Honor Society Kappa Delta. Charles Schiermeyer died on August 7, 1993. In 2000 following a NCHS class reunion, Fern married a classmate, Robert N. Olsen, at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Schiermeyer, her parents John and Bessie Gibbs, her sister Marjorie Gibbs McDill, and her nephew Morris McDill. She is survived by her husband, Bob Olsen, her daughters Julia Schiermeyer Clouser (Ron) and Phillis Schiermeyer Roe, a nephew John McDill, step-daughter Judy Ellis, 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Bustard's Funeral Home with Ken Martin; Chaplain at Central Wyoming Hospice, officiating .
