Evelyn Sabec

March 25, 1924 — June 2, 2018

Evelyn Sabec passed away on June 2, 2018 at the age of 94. She was born March 25, 1924 in Boulder, CO, the eldest daughter of Clint and Lulu Clemens. Her family moved to Casper when she and her two sisters were children. Her father was the City Park Superintendent, and planted many of the trees still standing in Washington Park and City Park. Evelyn graduated from Natrona County High School and attended the University of Wyoming. During WWII, she worked at the Casper Air Base as a stenographer and typist. Evelyn married the love of her life, Ernest J. Sabec, on October 16, 1948 in the First Presbyterian Church. Ernie worked for Amoco Oil Company at the Casper refinery for 34 years. After his retirement in 1981, they enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Mesa, AZ. Evelyn and Ernie celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary before he passed away in 2016. Evelyn adored her family and hosted countless gatherings for family far and near. She was passionate about family history and particularly interested in her ancestor Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain). Evelyn created beautiful genealogy records for both immediate and extended family. Throughout her life, Evelyn made wonderful friends. There was no occasion too small, nor a day too busy, for a get together with family and friends! Evelyn loved concerts and plays, and she and Ernie were regulars at events sponsored by the Chamber Music Society, ARTCORE, Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, and Casper College. She particularly enjoyed Casper Municipal Band concerts at the Washington Park band shell. Evelyn had many hobbies, her favorites being those that included visiting with friends (scrap booking, toll painting, and bridge). Evelyn enjoyed a long life, well lived. She adopted Mark Twain's adage: "Give every day the chance to become the most beautiful of your life." Evelyn is survived by her sons Paul (Margo) and Kenneth (Dawn), daughter Marian Stevens; grandchildren Scott and Mark Sabec, Erin (Tom) Goynes, and Elise (JD) Turner, great-grandchildren Payton and Carter Goynes, and Bayleigh and Mason Turner; and numerous nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters Marian Hutsell and Dorothy Tregear, and great-granddaughter Alexis Turner. The family thanks the staff at Mountain Plaza Assisted Living, Mel's Helping Hands, and Central Wyoming Hospice for their extraordinary kindness and compassion in caring for Evelyn. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on August 18, 2018, at the Grace Reformed Church (former First Presbyterian Church), 804 S. Wolcott Street, Casper, WY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Reformed Church.
