Evelyn Reid Day passed from this world from complications of breast cancer, on Saturday afternoon, March 5, 2016 in the comfort of her home. Evelyn was born on October 10, 1934 to Peter and Mary Reid in Glasgow, Scotland, the middle of three children. She attended Our Lady of St. Francis School and West Scotland Commercial College in Glasgow. She came to America in 1957 joining her sister in Denver. Evelyn was working for Colorado Fuel and Iron Company when she met Richard (Dick) Day, a student at the University of Wyoming. Evelyn and Dick were married on June 7, 1958 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Denver. They set up their first home in married student housing in Laramie and Evelyn worked for the University while Dick attended law school. After Dick's graduation the family lived in Texas, Mississippi and Colorado before moving to Cheyenne, finally settling in Casper in l964. That same year Evelyn became a United States citizen. Fully appreciative of her adopted Wyoming life, her lifetime privilege of dual citizenship remained a source of satisfaction. Growing up in Scotland and Glasgow in particular was a source of pride and Evelyn was an ambassador for all things Scottish. She enjoyed being stylish, spending her youthful days dancing to popular bands at the local dance halls, and vacationing on the Scottish coast with her family. Her childhood also included living through WWII. There were times her family had to seek refuge in underground shelters during bombing raids by Nazi Germany. At one point, she and her sister were evacuated from Glasgow with other children and sent to the highlands for their safety. A Scot through and through, she always celebrated the achievements of fellow Scots such as Andy Murray. Evelyn lived in Casper until her death. She was a member of Casper Service League and enjoyed being in their Cabaret productions. She also enjoyed her gourmet group and bridge parties. She was a Libra and celebrated with her Libra friends every October. Evelyn enjoyed sports. She played field hockey as a girl. As an adult, she loved bowling, and then later golf and tennis. Evelyn and Dick traveled throughout the United States and the world together and with groups of friends including the International Society of Barristers. Favorite trips included Vancouver, Australia and Hong Kong. She attended University of Wyoming Cowboy football games with Dick and was surrounded by friends and family throughout the State. She embraced her Catholicism and her faith supported her all her life. Evelyn loved her family and was proud of their accomplishments and successes. She enjoyed her connections with her sister, brother and her nieces and nephews, along with her extended family back in Scotland. Evelyn was especially proud of her children, her grandchildren and she loved to emphasize the "GREAT" in being a great grandmother. Evelyn is survived by her brother Larry Reid and his wife Eileen of Katy, TX; her son Stuart Day and his wife TimAnn of Casper, her daughter Laurie Ann Rocke and her husband Marshall of New York City; four grandchildren, Shelby Brown and her husband Chris of Cheyenne, Erica Day and her husband Arik Smith of Ft. Collins, CO, Jackson and Samantha Rocke of New York City; and two great- grandchildren, Ryder and Owen Brown of Cheyenne.
