Eugene Francis Novotny was born April 25, 1932 to Otto and Ruth Novotny in Casper, Wyoming. He attended St. Anthony's Catholic School and in 1951 graduated from Natrona County High School. Gene owned and operated the Auto Hospital for 57 years. In 1956 he married the love of his life and soul mate, Vallie. Sprint car racing was his favorite passion and he excelled at it for 64 years. He held the Pikes Peak Hill Climb 6 cylinder record for years and his sprint cars' won the Wyoming State Championship for 10 years. In 2006 he was inducted into the Big Car Racing Association Hall of Fame and his notorious "bumblebee" 6 cylinder sprint car is still on display in the Smith Collection Museum. For Gene, there was nothing like the euphoria of one of his sprint cars sliding thru the corner to win a race. He enjoyed every day and loved good music, fast racecars, friends, and good beer. He never met a stranger, loved to talk, had a great sense of humor, always had a great story to tell, and was always willing to help those in need. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Novotny; mother, Ruth Novotny; son, Vince Novotny; brothers, Ben, Thurel, Loren and Faye Novotny, and sister, Mary Shinn. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Vallie Novotny, daughters Vanessa Myrstol and Velvet Hiser (Wes) and grandchildren; Alexandria Novotny, Shad Petersen, Chandler, Sierra, and Gentry Hiser; Bronson and Blake Myrstol. Memorial Service will be held on March 24, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Bustard's funeral home. Memorials may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice.
