Ethelyn Monteith

July 27, 1922 — April 1, 2016

Ethelyn (Lynn) Monteith, of Casper, Wyoming went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2016. She was 93 years old. Lynn was born in Grand Ledge, Michigan on July 27, 1922. She was the eldest of 7 children born to Earl and Goldie (Daniel) Wilbur. She was an identical twin with Evelyn, which was unusual in the early 1900's. She and Evelyn shared a special bond. She went to grade school in Portland, Michigan. The family moved west to find better employment. They had to pick fruit along the way to earn money for the trip. They settled in the Sacramento where she joined the work field to help the family. She moved to San Rafael, California and took a position at the telephone company. While working there she met and married then Lieutenant Arthur W. Jones and had two children, Richard and Cynthia. She enjoyed the military life and the traveling. After the divorce, she returned to California to continue her career. She met and married William Ramm and was divorced many years later. She met Ronald C. (Monty) Monteith, Chief in the US Navy and they were married in Leonardtown, Maryland where they adopted Troy and Bruce. Her career took many forms. She was a telephone operator for a short period of time. She became a dental assistant for a prominent oral surgeon. She also worked for and managed several restaurants. Later in life, she went to Beauty College and became a manicurist. She and Monty opened their farm home to foster children. One summer, she had thirteen children in her home. Her life was always about giving and caring for others. This was probably the hardest, but best times of her life. In later years, Lynn moved to Casper, Wyoming to live with her sister, Norma Gene Clavier. Norma was not just a sister, but a best friend, travel partner and eventually caregiver. Lynn was also community minded. She served on several clubs, was a member of American Business Women's Association, American Dental Assistant Association, President of Hadassah, and supported the Police Association of Casper, Wyoming as well as the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Willis Wilbur and Jack Wilbur, her sisters Etta Mae McCall and Evelyn Bendit, her sons, Richard Jones and Bruce Monteith. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia E. Griffith of Spokane Valley, Washington and her son Troy C. Monteith of Richmond, California; her step daughters, Ronaline Monteith of Milton, Wisconsin and Kathy Monteith of Sarasota, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Agnes Monteith, her beloved grand-sons and grand-daughter, Jason R. Duffy of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, Tommy Pilkerton of Baltimore, Maryland and Brandie Monteith of Mechanicsville, Maryland and four great-grand daughters, Paige, Kara and Kylie Duffy and Sophie Pilkerton. She is also survived by her loving sister Norma Gene Clavier of Casper, Wyoming, and her brother, Richard Wilbur of Chico, California. She was blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews. A loving appreciation is given to Norma Gene Clavier (her sister) and Stephanie Slaymaker (her niece) for their devoted care of Ethelyn in her golden years.
