Ernest F. "Ernie" Mair, 71, passed away on September 8, 2017 in Casper, Wyoming surrounded by beloved family and friends. Ernie owned and operated Ernie's Furnace - Mobile Home and Oil Field Services for 41 years. He enjoyed working for the public, but the oilfield patch jobs were always where he loved to be. Working for Unit Drillings, Bob's Equipment Rentals and other companies was his passion. Ernie graduated from Natrona County High School and continued to acquire his degree in Engineering. Ernie enjoyed many summers at his cabin in Sterling, Alaska. He loved fishing on his boat for halibut, rock fish, cod and yellow eye. He also enjoyed fishing on the Kenai River for salmon and announced every hooked catch with "Fish On!", meaning someone grab the net! Because no one was a stranger to Ernie, he made many friends in Alaska including Dan, Cathy, Dave Roxanne, Kristen, Doug, Bill, Mike, Rob, Suzy, Curtis, Steve, Dwayne, Travis, Wallace and Joe. Ernie and Judi spent the last 2 winters in Salome, Arizona. He loved meeting new friends there also including Bill, Linda, Mac, Pam, Pat Boyd, Billy Bob, Connie, Tom, Little Jo, Jeff, Roumi, Steve, Vicki, Bob, Debbie and many more. These friends made being away from home a lot easier. Ernie liked going to Ghost Town and would tell his friends the many stories of his trips to Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii and Mexico. Larry, Ron, Tommy, Ron, Charlie, Dennis, LT, Will, Wayne, Kevin, Dan, Gene, Chris, Terry, Keith, Brandy, Grannie, Darla, Gina, Robby as Little Smurf and many more friends enjoyed his stories. Ernie's friends Turk (Dan) and Connie Hemminger and sister in law Debi Rohrer liked the casinos. Ernie would call Turk 2-5 times a week to make sure was working as Ernie needed his social security check! Ernie enjoyed fishing, hunting and never missed an opportunity to hit the casinos to play the slot machines. Ernie's boys, Bobby Larson and Randy Amen made his hunting last year a great success by helping him get a 6 point bull elk. On the next hunting trip, Ernie had drawn a very rare bull-moose tag and his friend Tom Whitmire and brother in law Jim Rohrer helped him get his bull moose. Ernie referred to everyone as "Boss". He would talk on the phone, answering "ok, Boss", "I'll be there, Boss or "Thanks for calling, Boss". Ernie had a very special little Corgi dog named Zoey that he loved very much. He would tell everyone about her and how she would talk back to him. Zoey is going to miss her Pops. Ernie met the love of his life, Judi, and they were married on April 18, 2010 in Reno, Nevada. He loved her so much and was always at her side, especially during her medical issues, and she was beside him during his. They did everything together and with the short time they had together, the made the most of that time making some incredible memories together. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Mair and Betty Neely; and his brothers, Charles, Max, Alan and Jimmy. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Ray and Kathy Pack of Casper, WY; son, Ernest (Ray) Mair; grandchildren, Catie, James and Shad; great-grandchildren; his in laws, Mike and Dianna Moser and Gary and Jackie Miller of Lovell, WY and Jim and Debi Rohrer of Douglas, WY. Ernie sponsored the College National Finals Rodeo for Special Olympic kids for 6 years. He loved those kids and they touched his heart. He looked forward to the event every June. He was also a lifetime member of the Moose for the past 41 years. Ernie asks that when you drive by a lake, pond, ocean, river, the Ferris or Big Horn Mountains that you give him a wave using his signature peace sign and this ole hippie will wave back. A memorial service for Ernie will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Mountain View Baptist Church with Chaplain Gary Rogow officiating. A luncheon will follow.
