Ernest Long

June 1, 1945 — July 18, 2018

A memorial service for Ernest David Long, age 73, of Casper, will be held Thursday August 2, 2018 at 10 am at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church Ernie attended, Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church located at 4100 Casper Mountain Road, Casper 82601. Ernie was born on June 1, 1945 in Casper, Wyoming and died at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper on July 18, 2018. Weary of reading obituaries noting someone's courageous battle with death, Ernie wanted it to be known that he died as a result of being stubborn and refusing to follow doctor's orders for exercise and diet. Dad loved rich food, and his colorful pancakes, and Rice & Eggs are a fond memory! The receipt found in his pocket the day he had a heart attack stated that he had recently purchased a slice of Turtle Pie, an Edward's Pie Wedge, and a box of Whoppers from The Dollar Store, who has just lost a faithful customer. Ernie was a faithful Christian and a loving father, brother, son and friend. Ernie leaves behind 4 children: First 3 kids with wife and childhood sweetheart Marsha (Gallegos) Sullivan of Seattle WA: Kevin Long of Sacramento, CA, his wife Nancy, and their daughter Rachel (14); Denese (Dina) Allen, of Aurora, CO, and her children Ryan (24) and Sarah (22), and Sarah's daughter Arin (3); Letricia Hatch of Seattle, WA, her husband Steve, and their 9 children Nicholas (26), Nathan (25), Aleah (23, married to Alex), Joshua (21), Christian (19), Caleb (17), Matthew (15), Mark (13), and Annaliese (10); and Daughter with wife Ginny, Debi Collins of Keizer, OR, her husband Michael, and their children Desi (18) and Sabina (10); for a total of 14 beloved Grandkids and 1 Great-Granddaughter. Dad is survived by 6 siblings, all of whom he loved very much: sisters Shirley Crawford, Viola (Jean) Burd, and Janet Hossack; and brothers Johnny King, Billy King and Robert King. Ernie was preceded in death by his mother Alice Viola (Eshelman) Manning. Ernie left behind many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as several good and faithful friends who were a blessing to him. Ernie proudly served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Navy, travelling all around the world aboard Naval ships. We look forward to a joyful reunion with Dad in heaven!
