Elwin "Swede" Olson passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday August 29, after a brief illness. Swede was born to Larry and Susie Olson, in Lynch Nebraska, on January 1ih 1933. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and one sister, Elaine Kloppenborg. He was the eldest of six children and is survived by three sisters, Donalda Raines, Vicki Golden, and Karen Keller and one brother Steve Olson. Swede served two years in the Army, enlisting in March of 1953, and was stationed in Korea. After being honorably discharged he returned to Nebraska, where he began a career in construction. He worked on numerous construction projects, which eventually led Swede to Wyoming. He worked on the Keyhole Reservoir Dam project, when he first came to Wyoming and eventually ended up in Alcova where he met his future bride Judy Clark. Swede and Judy were married on June 30, 1961. They lived in several towns throughout Wyoming, as Swede worked on different highway construction projects around the state eventually settling down in Casper. Swede went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department, where he worked for over 10 years, and lived in the community of Bessemer Bend west of Casper. Swede and Judy met the people who would be friends for life while living in "The Bend". Swede had many fond memories of this time in his life. Swede and Judy had two sons Wade Olson and Bart Olson; both still live in the Casper area. After separating in 1976, Swede returned to construction work for several years, working in many different states, as an equipment operator and Job Superintendent. When Swede retired, he returned to Gering Nebraska where he cared for his mother until her passing. Eventually, Swede returned to Casper where he lived with his son until his passing. He often said that being up in this country made him feel alive. A public Military Honors ceremony will be held Friday August 31, 2012 at 2:30 PM at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery, in Evansville. No public service is planned and Swede will be cremated as per his final wishes.
