Duane Fluegel

   Duane Fluegel was born March 29, 1940, in Fargo, North Dakota. He passed away Thursday, February 22, 2023, in Casper, Wyoming. He was born to Melvin and Bessie (Capouch) Fluegel.

  At age 2, Duane’s mother passed away. Him and his father moved to their family farm, Southwest of Casselton, North Dakota, where he was raised. He attended grades 1 – 8 in a 2 room Goshew Country School, 1 mile away from their farm. Duane graduated High School from Casselton, North Dakota in 1958, as the Salutatorian of his class. He was active in sports and FFA where he received the degree of State Farmer between his junior and senior years. Duane graduated from NDSU from Fargo in 1962, with a BS degree in agricultural economics. He married Dorothy Himler on December 18, 1965.

  He worked a short time for the state of North Dakota before joining the Farmers Home Administration (USDA) in July, of 1962. Duane worked at various locations before becoming County Supervisor at LaMoure in 1965, he held that position for 12 years. They moved to Wyoming in 1977. Duane served as a County Supervisor in Cheyenne for 1 year; Assistant District Director in Douglas for 2 years; Farmer Program Specialist in Casper for 11 years and Chief Appraisal Staff in Casper for 3 years. He retired in 1994.

  Duane was a lifelong member of the Elks Club. A past member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers holding designations of Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) and Real Property Review Appraiser (RPRA.) He was one of the first to receive the RPRA designation.

  In 1989, Duane’s wife Dorothy passed away. He later married Nancy Woodling on June 6, 1992.

  He was an avid golfer and football fan. (Especially the Broncos, Vikings and Wyoming Calvary.) Until recent years he also enjoyed hunting. He spent his retirement playing golf with his buddies and being with his dogs. Duane also enjoyed watching T.V., especially football and old westerns. He cherished his time in Yuma, Arizona the last 7 years.

  He is Preceded in death by his parents, his brother who passed at birth, and his first wife.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Bustard and Jacoby Funeral Home with interment to follow at Highland Cemetery.
