Dorothy Lang

July 5, 1928 — February 17, 2018

On February 17, 2018, Dorothy (Dottie) Lang's battle with breast cancer ended peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed. Dorothy Mae DeWees was born July 5, 1928 in Casper, Wyoming to Chester C. DeWees and Jessie (Morgan) DeWees. Her family returned to Nebraska where she attended school in Irwin and Merriman, graduating from high school in 1945. She moved to Casper shortly after and met her future husband, Leonard Lang, that fall at the North Casper Roller Skating Rink. They were married January 15, 1946 and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary a few months before Leonard's death in April of 2016. Leonard, Dottie and their three children at that time moved to Laramie in 1951 for Leonard to obtain his Law Degree from the University of Wyoming. After returning to Casper, Dottie attended Casper College for one year. Following the birth of her youngest son, she continued her education by taking classes in the evening. After raising her children, Dottie began a career in real estate with Heizer Realty. She later obtained her broker's license in 1983 and began working independently as "Lang Realty" in 1986. Selling real estate was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream and she enjoyed her career until her retirement in 2002. In addition to her career in real estate, Dottie served as a Deacon for North Casper Winter Memorial Church and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church Alter Guild and an annual fund raiser for the Blue Envelope Health Fund. Dottie dedicated her time as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for mentally challenged girls of Casper. She and Leonard did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels for many years. Dottie belonged to Casper Service League and enjoyed her time volunteering at "The Glass House". She was a Charter Member of PEO Chapter AT and saw to it that her 2018 dues were paid. She enjoyed her affiliation with the Natrona County Pioneers Association and Antique Collectors Club. Dottie was a Life Member of the Casper Country Club. She and Leonard loved to dance and were members of Viva La Joie Dance Club for more than 50 years. Dottie had many interests including playing golf, painting, sewing, and playing bridge for over 50 years with her lifelong friends. Her greatest love was her family which included her four children, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She loved being a step-grandmother as well. Pictures of all of them adorned her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her one brother, Blaine DeWees, and her husband, Leonard. She is survived by her older sister Betty Hazen of Casper; her four children, Cheryl (Cherie) Phillips (Bob) of Casper; Rick Lang (Pam) of Casper; Judy Kimble (Bob) of Las Vegas; and John Lang Sr. of Casper; and her beloved companion Peaches (the Goldendoodle). A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper.
