Dorothy Gray (Dottie), aged 96, died peacefully on January 24, surrounded by her family. Dottie was born on December 17, 1921, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, the daughter of Mary and Frederick Eydmann. She is survived by her four children, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her grandson, Spencer, and her husband, Tom. Dottie moved with her parents to Casper in the late 1920's. She graduated from NCHS in 1939, as valedictorian. She attended Woodbury College in Illinois. She met Tom in Boise, while he was serving as an airman during World War II, and they were married at the airbase there. After the war, they lived in Lake Charles, Louisiana, until 1954, when they moved to Casper. She lived in Casper for the rest of her life, where she was a homemaker, and later was the First Christian Church Secretary for seventeen years. After Tom died in 1992 she became active delivering for Meals on Wheels, and she continued that service until she was 90 years old, when she was older than nearly everyone she served. Tom and Dottie built a summer home between Cooke City and Silvergate, Montana, near Yellowstone Park, in the late 1970s. "The Cabin" was her greatest joy, and was her home every year from first thaw to first snow. She was very active with the Mount Republic Chapel between Cooke City and Silvergate, where she served as the Board Secretary for many years. She loved hiking and exploring and viewing wildlife. She had many exciting encounters with bears and bison and moose, oh my! She has been credited with the discovery that if you hiss loudly at bison in the front yard, they will flee. Her love of nature was marred only by her disdain for dandelions and cow parsnips, which she would root out at every opportunity. Dottie was world class at knitting, crocheting, crafting, and doll making, and her projects can be found from coast to coast and beyond. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will all miss her terribly. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M., Sunday, January 28, 2018 at First Christian Church. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery.
