After a brief illness, Dorothy Ann Chuman, 76, passed away peacefully on November 14th, at Poplar Living Center with her son by her side. She was born June 4th, 1936 in Cheyenne, WY, with her early childhood years spent in Glenrock, WY where her father worked at the old Conoco Refinery. At age 14, the family moved to Billings, MT. During her high school years she was active in Job's Daughters, culminating in becoming Honored Queen of Bethel #3. She graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1954 and continued her education at Colorado College until 1956. Dorothy married Richard W. Chuman on September 18th, 1957 and moved of Casper in 1960. They later divorced. Dorothy was involved in the community in her early years in Casper, belonging to GeoWives and Active Service league, where she held offices in both organizations. She also was the Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel #9. She was active in both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts where she was a troop leader and den mother. An avid music lover, she also enjoyed playing the piano, sometimes to the chagrin of her daughter during slumber parties! Dorothy enjoyed family get-togethers immensely, and as a devoted grandmother, would never miss a sporting event in which one of her grandchildren were participating. She was always known as a kind and friendly person, and would engage anyone in conversation. Dorothy had a tight knit group of high school friends who enjoyed mini-reunions in various locations around the western US. She also had many friends in Casper who loved her and looked out for her over the years. She is survived by her children, Rucey (Craig) Erwin of Seattle, WA, Cole (Terri) Chuman of Casper; and her grandchildren, Madeline Chuman, Emily Chuman, and Kyle Chuman. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruth Golay of Billings, MT; and various aunts; uncles; and cousins. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in her name to the charity of their choice. Messages for the family may be left at bustardsfuneralhome.com.
