Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Boam, 86, of Glenrock will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, August 21, 2015 at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Bustard's Funeral Home. Dorothy passed away August 16, 2015 in Casper, WY. Dorothy Jean (Franklin) Boam was born in Elk Basin, Wyoming to Claud H. Franklin and Anna Laura (Wise) Franklin September 30, 1928. Mrs. Boam lived in Lander-Ft. Washakie area for 13 years then moved with her family to Superior, Wyoming in 1942 where she graduated from high school. She was married to John W. Boam on June 19, 1947. The Boam family moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1952 when her husband, John, worked for Standard Oil of Ind., then moved to Glenrock in 1984. Mrs. Boam was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary for over 55 years and held many offices within the Unit, District and Department. Dorothy was Department President in 1975-76, then going into National Committee work that kept her active for many years on the National level. She was elected Northwestern Division National Vice President in 1983-84 and Elected to National Chaplain in 1987-88. She was very interested in working with the hospitalized Veterans and served on the Department Committee of Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation for several years. She was a member of the honorary group of the American Legion Auxiliary, the 8 et 40, for over 40 years and was elected as the National Demi Chapeau of the Northwestern Division in 2005. She was appointed by Governor Geringer to the Wyoming Veterans Commission in 2000 and reappointed to a 3 year term by Governor Freudenthal through 2005. She was appointed to the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery Committee in 2009. The Boam family were outdoor people, and her family enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, rock hunting and camping together. Dorothy loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved being with them. Survivors are two sons, John F. and Claude I. Boam of Glenrock, one daughter, Elizabeth L. Falke and her husband of Denham Springs, Louisiana. Also, grandsons, John E. of Glenrock, Travis P. of Evansville, Benjamin L. of Walker, Louisiana and Wade Boam of Loveland Colorado, granddaughters, Alisha R. Boam of Casper, Brandi Narez of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, five great grandchildren of Louisiana, sister, Laurie Mayo and her husband Robert of Riverton as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, two brothers, Claud E.and Myles L Franklin, two sisters, Lydia Belle Franklin and Judith L Harper. Memorials may be made to Past Presidents of Casper American Legion Auxiliary Unit #2 Scholarship Program for Casper College, in care of Bustard's Funeral Home.
