In His infinite wisdom, our loving Lord saw fit to call Doris home to His waiting arms on Sunday, July 14, 2024, after graciously allowing her to live 87 full years of life. She was surrounded by her loving family when she passed.
Doris was born to Marie (Warner) and Theodore Kalkofen on May 28, 1937, in Casper, Wyoming. She attended Natrona County High School and graduated in 1955. Doris worked as a bank teller for many years before taking over the bookkeeping for the family business.
Family was of utmost importance to her, and she dedicated much of her life to being a mother, homemaker, caretaker, and the glue that held the family together. Doris was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Doris was like a mom to many people. She was a source of inspiration to all of us and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
On June 28, 1957, she married Neil “Elzie” Brown and brought son Matthew into the world. After being widowed, she married Max Huckfeldt on April 27, 1972, and in that union had daughter Trisha. Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Doris’s life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She loved her children more than anything.
Doris cherished her family and enjoyed cooking and hosting parties, bringing everyone together for holiday dinners and summer barbecues. In addition to loving her family, Doris loved animals unconditionally. She nurtured countless cats and dogs throughout her lifetime. If she could have saved them all, she would have.
Doris’s love for life extended beyond her family. She had a passion for interior decorating and gardening. She was always changing decor and could transform any plot of dirt into something magical. Her home and yard were the envy of all who had the pleasure of witnessing them. Her yard was a source of beauty and solace, not just for her but for everyone she shared it with. She loved sharing cocktails in the company of friends and family on her patio while enjoying her flowers.
Doris was a classy lady who was always well put together and paid attention to every detail. One of her favorite things to do was go shopping with her daughter. They would spend countless hours shopping for clothes and accessories until they created the perfect outfits or found enough home goods to decorate a whole room.
Doris also enjoyed sports. She liked to follow the Wyoming Cowboys and go to Laramie to watch basketball games. Sometimes it was more fun to watch her than the game itself. She loved the Buffalo Bills too, especially Josh Allen. She was a NASCAR fanatic, and her favorite driver was Kyle Larson. She always looked forward to Sunday afternoon talks with her son, discussing game and race highlights.
Doris liked to party and have a good time with her sisters, which often included getting dolled up for a Friday night, prepping for a weekend camping trip or backyard barbecue, or embarking on a cross-country adventure. Throughout the years, they shared laughter, tears, and many unforgettable experiences. She loved her sisters very much and was blessed with the opportunity to be with them both weeks before she passed.
Doris was preceded in death by her brothers Dickey and Paul, husbands Neil and Max, and parents Marie and Lloyd. Her memory will be honored and kept alive by her survivors, who include son Matt Brown (Betty) of Casper, WY; daughter Trish Worley (Glenn) of Laramie, WY; grandsons Dillon and Conor Brown of Casper, WY; sisters Pauline Barber of Casper, WY and Connie Caldwell of Ocala, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
We will remember Doris for her enchanting beauty, caring nature, detailed storytelling, warm hugs, and her innate ability to make everyone feel special and loved. A Memorial Service will be held on August 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Bustard & Jacoby Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at the Bustard's Reception Center.
