Doris Maxine Carpenter Casper, Wyoming September 2, 1920 - August 7, 2016 Doris, 95, died of a broken heart after the very recent loss of her husband of 71 wonderful years of marriage. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church. There will be a viewing on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Bustard's Funeral Home from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Doris was born September 2, 1920 in Burns, Wyoming, the son of Alfred and Alice Christensen. She, her mother, sister, and brother moved to Cowley, Wyoming in 1929, after her father died. In 1945 she married William Carpenter in Casper where they ultimately settled and lived the rest of their lives. She worked for the phone company for 31 years. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, the Telephone Pioneers, various bridge groups, and had volunteered at Meals on Wheels for 35 years. Doris enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge, reading, rooting for the Broncos and organizing family gatherings. In her retirement years she and her husband spent winters in California, Florida, and, most recently, Sun City, Arizona, where she had many, many good friends. Survivors include her two sons, Bob and Ken (Margaret) of Casper; grandsons, Patrick (Gina) of Gillette, Michael (Amy) of Duncan, SC, and Colin (Amanda) Gibbs of Jackson, N.J.; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Alfred Christensen (Sue Mumma) of Denver, and her brother-in-law Jim Wilson of Casper. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, WY 82601.
