Donna Patricia (Golden) Strube was born December 2, 1940, in Norman, Oklahoma to Donald Golden and Genevieve Bell Golden. Donna, a beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend went to Heaven November 17, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
Donna and her family moved to Casper in 1953. Donna graduated from NCHS in 1958. She received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Wyoming in 1962. While at UW, Donna was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Student Senate, Phi Delta Epsilon, and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity’s Little Sisters of Minerva. After college, she worked as the Women’s Page Editor of the Casper Morning Star, which later became the Casper Star Tribune.
Donna married Beecher “Ed” Strube in 1963. The couple had three children, and divorced in 1979. Donna taught Journalism at Kelly Walsh High School from the late sixties until 1997. She oversaw the Kelly Kall school newspaper and the Yearbook. Both publications received numerous awards under her leadership.
Donna was an inspirational teacher. She had the ability to see exceptional talent in her students, and encouraged them to follow their dreams. She was immensely proud of former students, several of whom are very accomplished. She kept in touch with several of them.
Donna cared for her stepfather, mother, and great aunt after her retirement. She also enjoyed several annual trips to Oklahoma to visit long-time friends and attend the Blue Grass Festival.
Donna, almost always behind the camera, was an excellent photographer. She enjoyed giving others her photos. She won many ribbons in the Photography class over the years at the Central Wyoming Fair and State Fair. In her free time, Donna enjoyed reading, going to lunch with the 58ers, and spending time with her family.
Donna is survived by her brother, Mike Golden (Jennifer); her daughter Debbie Ehlers (Guy); her daughter Devon Strube; and her son Beecher (Cathy) Strube. She is also survived by her grandchildren Abigail Strube, Beech (Alexa) Strube, Joel Strube, and Sarah Strube. She also has several nieces and nephews.
