Donald Wayne Kirby, 77, answered the call of his Lord and Savior, April 11, 2011 at Shepherd of the Valley, where he had been receiving care for Alzheimer's Disease. He was born the 2nd of 3 sons to William & Virginia Daniels Kirby in Enid, Oklahoma on March 15, 1934. The family followed the oilfield until 1941 when they settled in Hobbs, NM for the boys to attend school. Don joined the Air Force in 1951, becoming a member of the 509th Bomb Wing, reaching the rank of Staff Sgt. After his discharge, he followed his father into the oilfield, working for Giberson, National Supply, Inexco Oil Co, Davis Oil Co and Castrol Industrial Lubricants until his retirement in 1999. While in the service, he married and was later divorced from Charlsie Wall, they had 4 children. Don and Sylvia were married October 15, 1977, in Carlsbad, N M., moving to Casper in 1978. A longtime member of National Hot Rod Assn and Oil Capital Auto Club, cars and drag racing were a passion of his that never went away. Don was the owner of several classic cars and spent many weekends at Douglas Raceway in "Momma's Quarter Horse", unafraid to tell people "Real men drove Pink". He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Donna Gale Kirby. Survivors include his wife of Casper, daughters Sherri Marshall, (John); Willis, TX; Jeani McWhorter (James), Ladonna Grogan, Conroe, TX and son Casey, Plano, TX; stepson James Riney, Carlsbad, NM., stepdaughter Susan Hernandez, Casper brothers, William Eugene, Columbia, SC and Robert Bruce (Lue), Midland, TX, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Oregon Trail Veteran Cemetery in Evansville, WY.
