She attended rural schools, and at one time, she and her brother were the only students in that country school, and her sister was their teacher. They moved into Laramie so that she and her brother could attend junior high and high school. She worked part time as a secretary to Dr. Northern who was writing a botany textbook. Dolly not only typed the book, she also did the art and illustrations. In 1951, she met a friend of her brother's who was home on leave from the Marine Corps. They dated and were married June 28, 1953, and remained married for 59 years. She dropped out of the university and worked as a secretary for General Credit and the Christensen Insurance Company. Upon her husband's graduation, they moved to Gillette where she worked part-time as a secretary for the Presbyterian Church. They moved to Casper in 1960, and when her five children were all in school, she worked as a part time secretary for the school district, and later on, full time for the Wyoming Multiple Listing Service and the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra. In Casper, she was active in Kappa Delta Alumni, Guardians of Bethel Nine of the Job's Daughters, Daughters of the Nile, and Service League.
