Dickerson “Dick” J Smith

Dickerson James Smith, 85, left this life on Friday, April 21st, 2023, in Casper, Wyoming surrounded by family.

Dick was born June 17, 1937, in Evanston, WY to James G and Edna (Dickerson) Smith. Dick graduated from Evanston High School. He married the love of his life Janice Bennett also of Evanston. Dick and Jan started their married life in Oakley, Utah where he worked in the dairy business and Logan, Utah where he attended Utah State University. This was an exciting time for them as they brought two beautiful children into their home, their daughter Vickie and son Jim.  After college they returned to work and live in Oakley Utah until a small ranch came up for sale back in Evanston. They purchased the Dank place and moved to Evanston and raised cattle and sheep. Dick also followed in his father’s footsteps by getting back in the school and charter busing business. He sold his ranch in Evanston in 1979 and moved to Casper where he continued to operate his bus business.

Dick would later buy a ranch north of Rawlins, Wyoming where he ran cattle. The ranch headquarters was located at the foot of Green Mountain. Dick enjoyed being down at the cabin on Green Mountain working alongside his son, grandsons and great granddaughter. He loved exploring the surrounding country and learning its history. Dick always had great appreciation for nature he especially had a soft heart for his horses, cows and dogs.  Dick’s greatest joy though was his family.

Dick was proceeded in death by his parents James G and Edna Smith and his daughter Vickie Lynn Smith.

He has left behind his dear wife Jan of Casper, his son Jim of Evanston, 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the LDS Church on Elm Street in Evanston, Wyoming. Burial will be at the Evanston City Cemetery.
