Deborah Steplock

Deborah Ann Garner Steplock, 58, known as "Petunia" by her loving husband and "Gracie" by her grandchildren arrived at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming, on February 26, 2019. Family and friends surrounded her until she went to heaven on February 28, 2019. Before leaving this earth, Debbie was able to donate her organs, gifting life to others. Debbie was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, where she learned to be a southern belle, a ballerina, a Memphis Tiger fan, and fell in love with Elvis Presley. After graduating from high school at Southern Baptist Education Center (SBEC), Debbie pursued her nursing degree at the Baptist School of Nursing. She enjoyed her career as a nurse at Baptist Hospital in Memphis where she met the love of her life and husband, Lou. It was soon after meeting Lou she discovered a new love of cocker spaniels through his dog, Boinkers. After eloping on a train on October 14, 1984 (her 24th birthday), the newlyweds embarked on their next adventure to the rocky mountain region. They loved Wyoming so much it is where they started their family. Debbie was a mother of five, but a mother to all that knew her. She was kind, giving, and selfless. Debbie was perfect in the eyes of her family and friends-she was their angel on earth. Debbie's final resting place will be in Memphis Tennessee, alongside her dad, Woodie Wayne Garner. Debbie is survived by her mother, Elaine Garner of Memphis, TN and husband, Dr. Louis Steplock of Casper, WY; her five children, Barbara Lee Steplock, 32 of Nashville, TN; Lesley Ann Steplock, 31 of Missoula, MT; Elizabeth (Betsi) Diane Steplock, 29, of Casper, WY; Rebecca Susan Johnston, 28 (Greg Evan Johnston, 30) of Casper, WY; and Andrew Wayne Steplock, 27, of Casper, WY; two sisters, Diane Ward (Sam Ward) of Memphis, TN; Kelly Young (David Lusby); and her children, Lauren Young Johnson, 29 (Josh Crockett Johnson); Zachery Taylor Young, 25 (Amy Miller-Young); Emily Grace Young, 22; and Matthew Gregory Young, 20, all of Memphis, TN; two grandchildren, Clayton Wayne Johnston and his baby brother arriving in July of Casper, WY. Seven, in-law, "bonus" family siblings include Andy Steplock, Debbie (Beebee) Steplock, Lee Ann Garner, Terry Vernon Garner, Barbara Steplock Couey, Elizabeth Steplock Paulson, and Greg Paulson. Additional nieces and nephews include Virginia "Ginny" Lee Garner, Terri Ann Darling, Drew Michael Darling, Robin Diane Fowler, Mike Robert Fowler, Laura Elizabeth Ouellet, Kathleen Rachelle Fleming, Marc Edmond Fleming, Paige Harris, Kimberly Kyla Paulson, Cory Andrew Steplock, Keller Paulson, Emily Diane Harris, and 13 great-nieces and nephews. Finally, Debbie leaves behind her three "babies," cocker spaniels Barbara, King, and Lady. Service will be held at Highland Park Community Church on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Klove Radio Station, The Donor Alliance Foundation, or Camp Cocker Rescue in her honor.
