David Schooley

December 13, 1945 — November 8, 2015

David A. Schooley Dec. 13, 1945 - Nov. 8, 2015 On the morning of November 8, 2015, David passed away after a long, courageous battle with lingering illness. David was comforted by family members and staff at Central Wyoming Hospice. He was 69 years old. David was born in Vermillion, South Dakota on December 13, 1945, the first child of Kermit Schooley and Donna (Ostlund) Schooley. David was an example of responsibility, trust, and joy to all who met him. He worked from a very young age as an auto-body technician, and this career would sustain him and his family up to and beyond his death. Dave served with pride in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, earning two bronze stars. After returning to his home town he attended the University of SD a. short time. He soon realized his true passion was the family auto body industry, in which his father mentored him. He married the love of his life, Karen Hansen, on November 25, 1972 and moved his family to Wyoming in 1978. There he accepted a position at Prazma Paint & Auto Body where he and Karen became owners in 1986. He would grow to consider the men and women of this business his second family. Many of the dearest friendships Dave formed were made on the softball fields across the state, and lasted his lifetime. A lover of the outdoors, David often enjoyed snowmobiling or boating, always with family and friends, but especially with his grandchildren. He also loved to travel with his wife and closest friends Doc and Edie Phillips. Through his enjoyment of life, he taught us all how to enjoy our own better. Anyone who knew Dave knew how quickly he would joke and laugh. We all also knew how much he valued us; he'd never have let us forget it. David is preceded in death by his parents Kermit and Donna Schooley, and his brother Dean Schooley. He is survived by his wife: Karen, his children: Nicole Moore and her husband Chris, Laura Bruckner and her husband Marcus all of Casper Wyoming, and Eric Schooley of Boise Idaho, his grandchildren: Sydny McAteer, Zachary Adels, and Scarlett Schooley. Dave also leaves behind two siblings: Doug Schooley and his wife Susanne of Colorado Springs Colorado, Diane Orr and her husband John of Wakonda South Dakota, his brother Dean's wife Kay Jorgensen of Viborg South Dakota, several nieces and nephews, and too many friends to count. A viewing will be held at Bustard's Funeral Home on Thursday, November 12 from 6pm-8pm. Funeral services are to be held at First United Methodist Church, 332 E 2nd. St, Casper, WY on Friday, November 13 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow directly at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery. A reception is planned for after the burial at Parkway Plaza.
