David Morgan

October 21, 1946 — August 16, 2012

David Morgan, 65, was taken to our Lord by an industrial accident on August 16, 2012 in Casper, Wyoming. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 AM on August 22, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 400 Country Club Rd, Casper, WY. David Morgan was born on October 21, 1946 to Gordon Morgan and Connie (Morgan) Pomeroy and was a lifelong resident of Wyoming. After graduating from Rawlins High School, he earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Wyoming in 1969. Dave was united in marriage with Katherine (Kruse) Morgan on June 4, 1969. That summer, they moved to Sinclair where Dave began his career as an analytic chemist with Sinclair Oil Corp. After 23 yrs with Sinclair Oil, Dave moved to Casper to take a job as a sales consultant for asphalt antistrip chemicals. He worked in the same job for a series of companies over 21 years. Dave was just weeks away from retirement. David believed strongly in public service and community involvement. As a young man, he volunteered for the Wyoming National Guard and served for 6 years before his honorable discharge. In Sinclair, he served as an elected city councilman and on the volunteer fire department. David was an active leader in 4-H activities including the launching of the 4-H Shooting Sports program. David also was a longtime member of the Joint Powers Board that administered the historic Old Penitentiary in Rawlins, WY. Upon moving to Casper, he became active in the Wyoming Republican Party and was elected to serve as precinct committeeman. He was planning to continue his community service in retirement with the Golden K Kiwanis of Casper as the co-president elect. He was a member of St. Patrick's parish. Dave was a passionate outdoorsman. Dave was the first of three Order of the Arrow Chapter Chiefs in his family. When not actually fishing, he often was caught thinking, dreaming about and studying fishing. While still a teenager, he employed this passion as a river fishing guide and continued this to support himself through college. Dave spent many hours with family and friends in the Wyoming countryside fishing, hunting and enjoying the outdoors. He always ensured that he left the land better than he had found it so that the public lands legacy would be available for all. He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine, of 43 years; his mother, Connie; brothers Fredrick Morgan and Dennis Morgan; brother-in-law, James Kruse; children and their spouses, Patrick and Kimberly Morgan, Steve and Dana Harmon and Brian and Stacy Morgan; grandchildren, Thomas, Edward and Gracelynn; nephews and their families, James and Katherine Kruse and Joseph and Katie Kruse; and niece, Jada Kruse. David was preceded in death by his father, Gordon, and his step-father, Carlyle Pomeroy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Casper.
