David Woods Farrar, longtime Casper resident, passed from this world on September 24, 2014. Dave was born in Casper on December 18, 1918 to Daniel Stewart Farrar Sr. and Sadie Marie Woods Farrar. He was raised in Casper along with his two brothers, Daniel Stewart Farrar Jr. and Harry Wellington Farrar (both deceased). The three boys gleefully used the entire town of Casper as their backyard while growing up. Dave attended Casper schools and graduated from NCHS in 1937. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served in Africa, Italy, and Sicily until he was discharged in 1944. During his service he was wounded twice, receiving the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. Upon returning from the service, Dave joined Carpenter's local 1564 of which he was a member until his death. Dave worked on many Casper buildings including The Wyoming School for the Deaf, CY Junior High School, Kelly Walsh High School, Casper College T-Bird Gym, as well as numerous others, both commercial and residential. On June 21, 1948, Dave married Thelma Mickelson, a union that lasted for 53 years until Thelma's death in 2001. Dave and Thelma had two sons, Mickey and Ray. Dave had four grandchildren, Kimberley Farrar Edwards, David Farrar, Casey Farrar Caster and Stewart Farrar. He also had one great-grandchild Tolina Edwards. Dave was an avid hunter and always looked forward to his Wyoming autumn hunts with close friends and family. Dave's passion in life, along with his family, was trapshooting. He started his trapshooting career in 1947 and continued for over six decades. He won eleven state championships as well as many other awards during his trapshooting career. His love for trapshooting made him a promoter of the sport in Casper, where he was a charter member and two time past president of the Rocky Mountain Gun Club. He was also a past president of the Wyoming State Trapshooting Association. Dave was a life member of the Rocky Mountain Gun Club, Amateur Trapshooting Association, Casper Elks Lodge #1353 (69 years), and a member of Carpenters Local 1564 (60 + years) and also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (70+years). David is survived by sons Ray Farrar (Gail) and Mick Farrar (Nancy), grandchildren, Kimberley Farrar Edwards (Eric), David Farrar (Anke), Casey Farrar Caster (Tim) and Stewart Farrar (Holly), and one great-grandchild Tolina Edwards as well as several nieces and Nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Thelma Mickelson Farrar, father Daniel Stewart Farrar Sr., mother Sadie Marie Woods Farrar, brothers Daniel Stewart Farrar Jr. and Harry Wellington Farrar. The Family would like to thank Dave's extended family at Garden Square Assisted Living Center for all of the great friendships and wonderful care that he received while living there. A graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery at 10:00 AM; September 29, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the Family would appreciate donations, in Dave's name, to the Rocky Mountain Gun Club, P. O. Box 1386, Casper, Wy. 82602.
