Darline Crogness

May 17, 1932 — December 6, 2011

Katherine Darline (Bittleston) Crogness Darline was born in Casper Wyoming on May 17, 1932 to William Alfred (Slim) Bittleston and Margaret Ann (Brummel) Bittleston. She died on December 6, 2011 following a lengthy illness. Darline was a woman of many talents. Her sense of humor entertained friends and family, through both her writing and when talking with her. She was an avid artist, working in oils, charcoal, watercolors, and acrylics at different stages of her artistic development. She began her musical training with piano lessons while in elementary school, played saxophone beginning in the 7th grade, played in the Natrona County High School marching band and orchestra, and later toured the United States and Canada singing and playing the electric bass guitar in the band led by her former husband," little" Vern Davis. Darline's stage name was "Long Tall Sam" during her career playing Country Western music. Following her divorce from Vern Davis, Darline traveled with an all-girl band, The Kountry Kittens. Darline served as 4-H leader for the Evansville, WY club, teaching sewing and serving as community leader, influencing many young lives. As a young woman, Darline was very involved in several organizations in Evansville, WY, including the Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and Good Neighbors' Club. She remained active in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) until her death. Darline served as sponsor to many individuals and through AA she ministered to others around the United States, speaking at various meetings and conventions. She also served as liaison for AA members who were incarcerated. Darline was proud of her 28 years clean and sober. She gave her permission to set aside her anonymity. Darline is survived by her children, K. Verline Davis, Dave A. Davis, and Doris A. (Davis) Powers and husband Don. She is also survived by grandchildren Larry D. Forsberg and Laura G. (Forsberg) Conrad; Daviena Schauer; Dawn Shoemaker; LeAnne, Heather and Christopher Davis; John A. and Jason A. Powers; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret "Peg" A. (Bittleston) Akers; Janice M. (Bittleston) Patrick; and Mary Lou (Bittleston) Witt and husband Phil. Darline is also survived by her first husband of 21 years, "little" Vern Davis. Darline was predeceased by her parents, second husband, Berton E. "AI" Crogness, life partner Red Culver and five brothers. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations to Blue Envelope, American Heart Association, or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
