On April 29, 1941, Danny Leroy Welty was born to Kenneth Leroy Welty and Velma Mae Welty in Wheatland, WY. He spent most of his childhood life between Cheyenne and Chugwater, Wyoming on the Horse Creek Mobile Oil Field. Being the first-born grandchild to the Arnold family, his aunts and uncles loved and adored him. He and his sister, Sharon Kaye Kelley (Welty) attended the Horse Creek Country School. Danny loved all animals, especially horses, cows and dogs. He loved to follow his uncles and grandpas around their ranches, learning how to ride horses, helping with the branding and taking care of all the animals.
Danny’s first job was being a ranch hand on a nearby ranch. He then moved to Wheatland to help his grandpa take care of his grandma, lifting her in and out of her bed to her wheelchair. On the side he worked for the sanitation crew for the City of Wheatland and then got promoted to dog catcher. When his mother and father retired from the oil field and moved back to Chugwater, Danny moved back with them. He then worked for the Chugwater School as a janitor. He made friends with all the students and staff. The highlight of his day was playing basketball with them. He loved to throw what he called “his famous hook shot” and talked about it for years.
Danny had a heart of gold and loved everyone. He would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. He loved to make people laugh. He would walk right up to them with his first fingers pointed out and say “Make my day.” He had no enemies.
When Danny’s mom and dad passed away, he moved to his younger brother’s and worked for Tri-State Oil. He then moved to Casper, Wyoming and lived with his youngest sister, Kathy Lorene Martin (Welty) and remained there the rest of his life. His older sister, Sharon Kaye Kelly (Welty) moved back also. This gave all the siblings time to reconnect and do various activities together once again.
Danny loved the Lord and read his Bible daily. He prayed for everyone. He went to sleep in Jesus Christ 9/11/2024 at the age of 83. He was preceded on death by his father, Kenneth Leroy Welty; his mother, Velma Mae Welty (Arnold); and nephew, Matthew Enoch Martin. Danny is survived by his sister, Sharon Kaye Kelley (Welty); brother, Charles Ross Welty; sister, Kathy Lorene Martin (Welty); and many nephews and nieces.
