Dale Overstreet

October 14, 1934 — December 15, 2016

Dale Darwin Overstreet, aged 82, of Glenrock, WY, passed peacefully in his sleep December 15, 2016 at the Mountain View Regional Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. Dale showed his innate sense of humor and called all the shots to the end as he made his final carpenter's measurement and cut. Whether you knew him for only a few hours or for his entire lifetime, you could not help to be touched by his positive view of life and smile at his many stories and jokes. Born October 14, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri he moved to Casper, Wyoming at the age of 11 with his mother, Melba Shepard Law. Here he worked various part-time jobs which provided the fodder for a lot of his later stories. After graduating from Natrona County High School, per Dale "The best school in Casper", He enlisted in the Army and served from 1956-58. Upon an honorable discharge from the army, Dale went back to Casper to work as a radio announcer/disc jockey, carpenter/cabinet maker, and fast pitch softball player. He began developing his carpentry skills working as an apprentice during the housing expansion in Casper while completing high school. This is when he met a young widow, Jean Donahue Frappia. Per Dale, he made this deal with God - "give this woman to be my wife and I will never ask for another thing for myself". They were married on November 6, 1961 and Dale kept his word to God. Dale, his wife, and four children moved to Glenrock in 1966. He continued a budding career as a mechanic at PP and L Dave Johnston Plant retiring in 1990 as the contracts administrator. He often said how he missed working with his tools. As one who felt it was a person's civic duty to be involved in the community he or she lived in, Dale was involved in Little Theater productions, serving as the announcer/MC at many events such as the Jr. Miss pageants, rodeos, sporting events, and horse shows. He coached, played or umpired fast-pitch softball and his son's baseball. He attended and took pride in his children's events from horse shows to basketball, track, volleyball and football games. He, with other community members, was instrumental in crafting and installing the Glenrock High School event's board, as well as New oak alter, Ambo, Presider's chair, Statue and Tabernacle supports and other woodwork now in the St. Louis Catholic Church of Glenrock. As one of his legacies, He leaves behind many custom built projects he did for family and friends. Once the kids were grown, Dale took up woodcarving and traveling the country. He and his wife, Jean, hooked a fifth wheel trailer to their pickup and criss-crossed the United States for several months of the year, until Jean's passing in 2005. He is survived by daughters, Kathleen "Kit" (Todd) Davis of Lewistown, MT, Kerry (Dave) Minchow of Fort Collins, CO, and Kim Johnston of Douglas, WY; son, Tom (Tammy) Overstreet of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren, Ashley Davis (Robert) Hutchings, Justine Davis (Adam) Schuff, Jessica Davis, Kerstin Minchow (Landon) Young, Danyelle Minchow, Brady Overstreet, and Makell Overstreet; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Nolan, and Tyleigh Hutchings, and Liam and Jude Schuff; sister-in-laws, Marge (George) Wortham and Jan (Denny) May; nephews, Reg and Todd; nieces, Barbara, MaryEllen, Joan, Tracy and Amy; and cousin, Barie Boyer. His wife and his mother preceded Dale in death. A memorial service to celebrate Dale's life will be held January 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Community Baptist Church in Glenrock. Rick Bishop will officiate. Memorials in Dale's memory may be made to the Glenrock Senior Center, 615 W. Deer Street P.O Box 783 Glenrock, WY 82637.
