Curtis Lee Benson was born on April 24, 1958 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He received his formal education in Indianola, Mississippi and joined the United States Army in 1976, where he drove the M68 tanker while he was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He married Brenda Johnson in July of 1993 and two children were born into this union. He was later to become a factory worker as well as a cook for different restaurants throughout the years. His lifelong profession came to be a "Personal Life Coach". Curtis was full of life and loved everyone. He also had that special gift that few people have, he was very optimistic about everything. One of his favorite sayings was "Awww stop being so Peffimistic" . Curtis loved many sports and was a fun and adventurous. When you stopped to visit, you would see him sitting in his favorite chair playing golf on his Playstation 2. Curtis passed away peacefully in his home on November 17, 2017 after a battle with cancer with his family and friends at his side. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Benson of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Marquise Benson of Casper, Wyoming; daughter, Latara Benson of Omaha, Nebraska; stepsons, Jonathan Johnson and Trevor Johnson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; mother, Louise Shavers of Indianola, Mississippi; stepfather, Frank Johnson of Indianola, Mississippi; brothers, Andrew Johnson of Tuscan, Arizona, Jessie Johnson and Richard Johnson of Indianola, Mississippi; sisters, Jeanette Shavers and Katherine Benson of Indianola, Mississippi; grandsons, Zayion Demeyer'e Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska and Lorenzo James Benson of Casper, Wyoming and a host of friends and relatives. Curtis is proceeded in death by his brother, Billy Johnson. Mr. Benson has truly left a legacy and will be greatly missed, especially by his, " Adversaries". Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Christ First Missionary Baptist Church, 900 North Grant in Casper.
