Memorial services for Sonny Cowlthorpe, 83, will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Rob Peterson, First Southern Baptist Church, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Natrona County United Veterans Council and the Wyoming Army National Guard. Sonny died May 21, 2010 at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper. He was born July 3, 1926 in Worland, Wyoming to Vera and Edwin Cowlthorpe. His grandparents Maud and Lon Burger raised him in Powell, Wyoming. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1944, serving two years in the Pacific. He was discharged in 1946. He married JoAnn Mavis Fitch on August 30, 1946 in Cody, Wyoming. In 1951 they moved to Casper. He was employed at N. L. McCullough as an oil service manager. While employed with N.L. McCullough, he invented a film processor and N. L. McCullough purchased the patent. He retired November, 1986. In October, 1987 Petro Log and Black Warrior Wireline employed him. He retired from Petro Log in June, 1998. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and taught Sunday school classes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird hunting, bird photography and woodworking. We were so fortunate to have such a caring, loving father and husband. His family was his life. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn, son, Ron Cowlthorpe (wife Diane) of Denver, daughter, Priscilla Williams of Casper, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous family and friends. We have many treasured memories to call upon in our thoughts of him. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, Blue Envelope or a charity of your choice.
