Charles Walker

December 15, 1948 — March 7, 2018

Charles Douglas "Doug" Walker passed away March 7th, 2018 at age 69 of natural causes, complications of dementia. Doug was born December 15, 1948 in Pine Island, Minnesota to Hilda (Runge) and Charles Walker, the third of five children. He graduated from Kaycee High School in Kaycee, Wyoming in 1967. That same year he married his high school sweetheart, Cathy Key, and they just passed their 50th anniversary. Doug was drafted to serve his country with the US Army in Vietnam, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded a bronze star, among several other medals. Upon his return to civilian life, he attended Casper College for two years on the GI bill. Over his lifetime, Doug worked several jobs including real estate, cable TV, Amoco Refinery, Rocky Mountain Brake Supply, and lastly owned three motels and hotels. In his younger years Doug was a member of the Jaycees, the Elks (BPOE), served on the church board and worked as a Sunday school teacher, helped break ground on the building of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and was a volunteer fireman for the Amoco Refinery. He also was a lifelong blood donor, with a generous heart toward other people - giving them time, love, and a helping hand even when his pockets were empty. He was a loyal Denver Broncos fan, a member of the NRA, and carried a tune with him everywhere with his whistling. With a wanderer's heart, Doug loved Wyoming's open spaces and back roads. He was a fantastic storyteller and had interesting antics and experiences to talk about; if you didn't know him when you met him, you knew him when you left. He held his beliefs strongly and often voiced them loud and clear. He had some colorful sayings, "Dougisms;" those of us who knew him well have a few favorites! We learned many valuable lessons from him that we will hold onto for our lifetime. Waiting for Doug in Heaven were his parents, his brother Wayne Walker, and his grandsons Austin Williamson and Dillon Peterson. Celebrating his life on Earth are his wife Cathy, his four daughters Cynda (Steve) Urhammer, DeLaine (Van) Williamson, Jennifer (Cameron) Santistevan, Charlene (Robert) Peterson, and his grandchildren: Caitlyn and Kasen Urhammer; Alec, Carter, and Cameron Britt; Logan, Hunter, Alexander, and Callyn Santistevan; Michael, Joseph, Carson, Gavin, Addelyn, and Avery Peterson; Kyle, Andrew, and Tyler Williamson. He is also survived by three sisters LaVae Wantoch, Sally Bates, and DeVel Clymer. People wishing to donate memorials in Doug's name may consider The Juvenile Diabetes Association, Accelerating Children's Minds (ACM) in Casper, the NRA, or a veteran's organization of their choice. .
