Charles Joseph Foldenauer, 74, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at Central Wyoming Hospice.
Born March 20, 1950, in Rapid City, SD to Donald and Eileen Foldenauer, Chuck was named after family friend Dr. Charles Ray. He attended St. John the Evangelist Elementary School and Cathedral High School, where he made a name for himself in football: “FoldenPOWER!”
Humble beginnings informed a life of generosity. While he rarely spoke of himself, those close to him have heard his stories of splitting wood and hauling water during cold winters in Nemo. He was an expert baker, working at Mt. Rushmore during high school and setting aside income for one of his first hobbies: motorcycles. He put himself through college, earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from South Dakota Schools of Mines & Technology.
Chuck went on to have a distinguished international career, beginning with coal in Eastern Kentucky and taking him across the world to Kazakhstan. He led the development of the first in situ mine in Australia, becoming renowned as an expert in his field before returning to Wyoming and establishing his own business. He used his success to help others, many when they needed it most and didn’t ask.
A lifelong learner, Chuck found the time along the way to become a licensed pilot, SCUBA diver, and successful hunter. Chuck was also a member of the Elks Club and active in the National Mining Association.
Chuck was the devoted husband of Kris for 38 years. He leaves behind his children: Matthew (Beata), Ciara (Tyler), Casey (Carrie), and Joe (Ellen); grandchildren: Amanda, Attila, Tibor, Neva, Jack, Logan, and Leif; his sister Madonna; his brother Mike, whom he lovingly cared for in recent years; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant brother Patrick and parents, Donald and Eileen.
A service will be held Monday, December 16, at 2:00 PM at Bustards and Jacoby located at 600 CY Avenue in Casper, Wyoming. Light refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chuck’s name to Paradise Valley Christian Church.
