Charles Adelman

Charles Dean Adelman, 82, of Casper died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at his home following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease and heart disease. Cremation has taken place. Private burial services will take place next spring at the family cabin. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Grace Lutheran Church, 315 CY Ave. in Casper. A reception will follow at the church. He was born April 8, 1931, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Walter Eugene and Milda (Behrmann) Adelman. They lived in rural eastern Colorado until moving to Grand Junction, Colo. after Charles graduated from high school. He graduated from Mesa College in Grand Junction with an associate's degree before attending what is now the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where he earned his bachelor's degree in education and his master's degree in education administration. After serving in the Army in a tank battalion, then finishing college, he married Ruth B. Vinson on Aug. 10, 1958. They were married for 55 years, having celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008 with a large family gathering at their Casper Mountain cabin, which Charles built from the ground up during his retirement years. After teaching at a rural school in Ellicott, Colo., for a year, Charles accepted a job teaching physical education in Casper in 1959. The couple had three sons, all born in Casper. Charles later became principal of Evansville Elementary School until taking on the task of opening a new elementary school, Sagewood, where he served as principal until his retirement. He was a faithful and long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Casper, serving on numerous church committees and the governing board for many years. He was also actively involved in coaching and refereeing sporting activities in his younger years, especially while his sons were growing up. Charles was preceded in death by his sister Virginia and his parents. He is survived is by his wife Ruth; sons and daughters-in-law Mark and Lacie Adelman of Washington State, Matt and Lisa Adelman of Douglas and Steve of Casper; grandchildren David (Kourtney) Adelman of California, Aaron Adelman of Casper and Evan Adelman of Washington, Alisha (Steve) Carver of Douglas, Jennifer Adelman of Douglas, Brandie Adelman of Casper, Shayne (Josh) Kost of Casper, Kaden Adelman of Casper; and six great-grandchildren.
