Catherine Burlingame

Catherine Agnes Burlingame, age 86 of Casper WY passed away Monday March 4, 2019. Visitation will be held from 1- 4 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM. She was born on the family homestead near Upton, WY June 9, 1932 to James and Margaret Whitman. Her family moved from Newcastle to Riverton, WY when she was very young and shortly thereafter moved to Casper. After some time, the family purchased what later became Whitman's Grocery on 12th St where she was an integral part of running the store as well as caretaking her younger brothers. Catherine graduated from Natrona County High School in 1949 and from Chillicothe Business College in 1951. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school classes; was a Cub Scouts Den Mother; a classroom volunteer at Garfield Elementary and volunteered for 18 years with Meals on Wheels in Casper. In addition to her volunteer activities, Catherine was an accomplished bowler and played on a league for many years. Catherine is survived by her husband of 67 years - Charles Burlingame of Casper, WY; brothers Robert Whitman of McKinley, TX and Roy Whitman of Frisco, TX; son David Burlingame of Casper, WY; son Ron Burlingame and daughter-in-law Cecelia Burlingame of Portage, IN; son Kenneth Burlingame and daughter-in-law Tracy Burlingame of Parker, CO; four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother James Whitman. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Catherine's name to the local chapter of Meal on Wheels.
