Carolyn Marie Steinberg was gifted to Stella Marie and Henry H Arends on December 2, 1933 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. The Arends family was a busy household with 10 children (two boys and eight girls). The family weathered the "great depression" and at the beginning of WWII Carolyn's father moved the family to Rapid City where he worked as a fireman at the Ellsworth Air force Base. While in high school Carolyn got a job working at the Rapid City LaunDry Cleaners. Little did she know that the rest of her life would begin here where she met a handsome young man by the name of Wayne Steinberg. The two stole away and married on December 17, 1949. Then on New Year's Day of 1950 and in search of greener pastures, they fought their way through a blizzard to Casper, Wyoming. Carolyn blessed Wayne with two daughters and the small family migrated to Glenrock where they nestled in and called home all these many years. Carolyn was a devoted "life partner" and worked right beside Wayne. Together, the two of them accomplished many things including building a cabin by hand in the mountains where they spent many blissful weekends and fall hunting trips. If there was elk to hunt Carolyn could be counted on to "bring home the bacon". If she turned up missing, you could find her and the dog on the hill not far from the cabin, her head would be down and her eyes on the ground looking for arrowheads. Caution, don't approach too suddenly as she had a faithful protector by her side. She loved to play cards and anyone who played with her knew she didn't like to loose. Carolyn spent hours sewing beautiful matching holiday outfits for her family. When she and Wayne belonged to the square dancing club she sewed them matching attire. If ever you were at the Steinberg home for the holidays you would have been treated like royalty. Carolyn was an excellent hostess, the house was decorated, the table was set with china and stemware and the centerpiece was "just the right touch". The dinner menu had several courses and the food was not only delicious, it was garnished and presented with flourish. Carolyn passed away peacefully at home on August 21, 2016. Her less than brighter days had been lengthy and she more than earned "a free pass to tranquility". She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wayne, her daughter Patricia Marie Miller, her daughter Jane Etta Jeffs and son-in-law John Jeffs, as well as granddaughters, Amanda Marie Jones, Leetta Jane MacMillan and Tomi Joy West. She also derived great pleasure in her numerous great grandchildren. Donations may be made to the Glenrock Senior Citizen Center in her name.
