Carl J. (Poppop) West, 81, passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in Casper at Wyoming Medical Center. Carl was born July 25, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. Formerly of Ocean Township, New Jersey, Carl spent many years serving in the military and worked for Continental Insurance Company before he retired. A Korean War Veteran, Carl served in the Illinois National Guard and was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant. Known as Poppop to his grandchildren, he spent his late years attending all their school and sporting activities. From gym bleachers to recital halls, Poppop could always be seen proudly cheering them on. He enjoyed activities like camping, fishing, boating, reading or exploring new technology and working on computers. Carl was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Jane. Survivors include his 4 children and their spouses: Kathleen Stevens, Craig and Bonnie West, Karin and Dennis Fakelman, and Kimberly West and Amy Weiss, and his 10 grand children: DJ, Jordin, and Kayla Fakelman, Bobby and Ryan West, Sara, Lexy, and Logan Weiss, Corey and Casey Stevens. Carl spent his last hours of life peacefully surrounded by family and prayer. Rosary Services will be on Monday October 6th at 7pm at Bustards Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday October 7th at 11:00am at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church on 400 Country Road, by Father Ruzicka. An inurnment will follow with military honors at Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Marine Corps ‘Toys for Tots' program.
