Carl D. (Dennis) Underwood age 83 went to be with our Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of June 24, 2016 he passed peacefully at home after a battle with cancer surrounded by his family. Carl was born in Hope, Arkansas on August 1, 1932, the third of four children to LL (Lester Layfette) and Barbara Allen (Reeves) Underwood. The family moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas where he grew up with his siblings Willard, Gene and Linda (Haygood). Carl met the love of his life Dolores Ann Halsell while in he was a Master Councilor in DeMolays and she was a Worthy Advisor in Rainbows. They will be celebrating their 63 Wedding aniversary on September 5. Carl and Dolores had four children, Denise (John) Lever, Eddie, Lloyd (Becky), Carey (Kristin). They have nine Grandchildren who know him as Pappy. Heath, Aaron, Michaela, Daniel (Shaunell), Luke (Kelsey), Leah (Jordan), Deanna (James), Timothy, Emily, and seven Great Grandchildren Max, Shaun, Aliyah, Hazel, Kinley, Kenzie and Kairi and Phillip Reaves a cousin who has spent many years as part of the family. Carl graduated from Hot Springs High School and attended Henderson College. He started out his working career as a plumbing apprentence but quickly moved to the oilfield as a mud logger and engineer working in Texas and New Mexico. The family lived in Edmonton, Canada for a brief time before moving to Casper, Wyoming in December 1958 where he became self-employed and started his own business in the oilfield. Over the years he has been involved in many aspects of the oilfield business with MERCO, 3U Rental, and Underwood Oil and Gas being just a few of his accomplishments in his long work history. Over the years he was involved in and supported the Masons, the Shriners and the Boy Scouts of America, in which he received the Silver Beaver Award. He supported Athletes in Action, Gideons and numerous Missionaries in the mission field. Carl started his work day by having morning coffee with his friends and business associates and then in the afternoons he had a passion for playing cards (Gin) at the Petroleum Club with a long standing group of friends. He did this every week up to recently when he physically could no longer attend. He will be remembered by many of his friends and their families by his support for them in their time of illness. Carl's greatest joy and passion was for his family and church. He was a charter member and supporter of College Heights Baptist Church. He loved his church and church family. He always had a vision of seeing the church grow and have a multipurpose building. He was able to see this accomplished in his lifetime. He made many a friend as a result of him welcoming people to the church and then inviting them to a dinner or Holiday meal. Out of all his accomplishments, his dedication to his family as a provider and supporter was his pride and joy. Many memories were made while fishing, playing softball, going on trips, and being on the sidelines of his kids and grandkids activities. He was always there and he was known as "Pappy" to many in the community. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his sister, several cousins, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed. The memorial and celebration of his life will be Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at College Heights Baptist Church Worship Center (Old Garfield School) at 1:00 pm with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers we feel Carl would appreciate donations made to the Gideons or Missions at College Heights Baptist Church in support of the church missionaries on the Mission Field. The family would like to thank you for being a part of Pappy's life.
