Buford Boomer

Buford Allen Boomer, 83, of Casper passed away on April 4, 2014 at High Plains Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Buford was born in Witten, S.D. on August 27, 1930 to Donovan and Mildred Boomer. He attended high school in Witten, S.D. and college at Black Hills State and earned a degree in Vocational Education. He earned a Master's degree in Vocational Education from Colorado State University. Buford taught Industrial Arts (auto mechanics) at Kelly Walsh High School and Midwest High School for over thirty years. Starting in 1952, Buford served in the Air Force at McConnel AFB in Wichita Kansas. During this time, he met Peggy Joyce Heinzman at Joyland Amusement Park. They were married in Wichita on August 27, 1954 and remained happily married until July of 2002 when Peggy passed away unexpectedly. Buford married Grace Thorson in November 21, 2005 until her unexpected passing on May of 2008. Buford is remembered by many from his teaching of mechanics and welding. He was a partner in Moonlight Construction Company. He was also actively involved with The American Legion where one of his proudest accomplishments was being involved in building The Avenue of Flags that was used in various parades and other functions. Buford was an active member at First Baptist and First Christian churches. He enjoyed coaching track, softball, youth baseball, and basketball. He also enjoyed going to Stock Car races especially NASCAR, Pheasant Hunting, and watching his grandchildren in all their sporting activities. Buford is survived by his sisters, Alta Bachofer and Linda Gould, both of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by five children, Denise Smith, Rodney (Theresa) Boomer, Sandra (Dan) Hoppe, Debbie (Jay) Zastrow, and Dawn (Vern) Moore of Lincoln, NE. Buford was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Military Rights will be accorded by the Natrona County Untied Veterans Council and Wyoming Army National Guard. Poplar Street, Casper) on Saturday, April 19th at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. .
