Bill Hambrick

Bill Hambrick Funeral services for Bill Hambrick, 91, will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Highland Park Community Church with the Reverend Paul Hallock officiating. Born and raised in Lone Oak, Texas, he graduated from high school at the age 16 enlisting in the armed services at 17. After 2 stints in the U.S. Navy first in the Air Corps during WW II and later in the Korean War, he went back to school earning his Bachelors degree from Southern Methodist University and later his Masters degree from East Texas State University. Professionally he spent his life in education, teaching school at every level from kindergarten through college. During his distinguished career he was principal of five elementary schools in Texas and Wyoming opening both Fairdale Elementary and Verda James Elementary in Casper. He was instrumental in bringing the Headstart program to Casper, serving as its director for several years. During his 47 year career he touched the lives of over 200,000 students earning him the honor of Wyoming Principal of the Year in 1987 as well as National Distinguished Principal in 1988. In 1977-78 he was elected President of the National Association of Elementary School Principals. He had a deep love for Casper College. From 2000-2012 he was on the Casper College District Board of Trustees, where he also served as President. In addition, he served on the Casper College Foundation Board. During that time he was active in the Wyoming Association of Community College Trustees. His strong ties to the K-12 community strengthened the college's ties to local districts. In his spare time he was a golf and tennis aficionado. He is survived by Joyce, his wife of 62 years; sons Blake (Rick) of Minneapolis, Kent (Cheryl) of Casper, Todd of Casper; grandchildren Elle (Sivje) of Oslo, Norway, Megan of Bozeman, MT, Alex of New York City; great grandchild Lilly of Oslo, Norway. He was preceded in death by his father Melvin, mother Lottie Lee, brothers Alton Wilson (Mutt) and James Hampton (Pete). In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Casper College Foundation, 125 College Drive, Casper, WY 82601 or Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson St, Casper, WY 82601
