Bill Farleigh

August 15, 1932 — July 6, 2019

Bill Dean Farleigh passed away on July 6, 2019 at Central Wyoming Hospice after a long illness. He was 86 years old. Bill was born on August 15, 1932 in Noble, Illinois to Edward (Smod) and Helen Farleigh. He graduated from high school there in 1950. In 1951 Bill became a Scout for Pure Oil Company in the Illinois and Kentucky basins. He was promoted to Landman when the company became Union Oil Company of California. He was transferred to Durango, Colorado, and then to Casper, Wyoming, where he met the love of his life, Gaye Ann Ellison in Casper. In 1971 they joyfully adopted their only child, Suzanna. In 1974 Bill started his own company, Taurus Corporation, with the help of his mentor, Jack Ellbogen. After four years he transferred the majority of the company's oil and gas leases to the Exxon Corporation. A year later he created Moxa Energy Corporation. Moxa was later sold, and Bill started Farleigh Oil Properties, which survives him. In 2008 Bill purchased Echo Mountain Ranch, located south of Glenrock. He was passionate about the beauty of the environment. He began breeding Gypsy Vanner horses, working towards a Grand Champion. Bill enjoyed many hobbies such as scuba diving, snow skiing, golf, and riding motorcycles. He believed in the community of Casper and philanthropy, supporting many charities throughout his lifetime. He was one of the initial founders and supporters of Wyoming Youth for Christ. Bill never met a stranger, and collected many "best friends" along the way. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Edward (Smod); his mother, Helen; his brother, Bob; and sister-in-law, Isabelle. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gaye Anne; his daughter, Suzanna Garlick (Keith); two grandsons, John William and Gabe, all of Casper; and one step-grandson, Alston of Carbondale, Colorado. A memorial service will take place on Monday, July 15 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 11 am (701 South Wolcott, Casper). A reception will follow at the home of Keith and Suzanna Garlick (1900 West 39th Street). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Wyoming, the Child Development Center, or the donor's choice. Bustard's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
