Billy (Bill) Blakeley Brauer passed away on September 25, 2014, at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Norene Clara Marsh Brauer; his sister, Beverly Geise; his sister-in-law, Hope Marsh; four sons and their families: Rod and Paula Rae Brauer, and their two children, Molly and Greg (Centennial, Colorado); Dave and Anne Brauer (Ontario, Oregon); Steve Brauer and his two children, Jessica and Miranda; and Tom Brauer and his wife, Laura Angelo, and her two children, Jayde and Tessa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Tecumseh, Nebraska, on April 6, 1930, and moved to Casper in 1941 to live with his father, Herman, initially at the Red and White Auto Court. Both of Bill's parents passed when he was young, and he and his sisters were supported and raised by their extended family. After serving as an Army Intelligence Officer in the Korean Conflict, Bill returned to attend Casper College, where he was an active member of the drama department. He went on to Denver University to earn a B.S. in Accounting in 1958. Upon graduation, he was employed by Pete Marwick and Mitchell, and then returned to Casper in 1960 to work for Raab Roush and Gaymon, which was acquired by McGladrey. Bill served on the firm's board of directors, and during his 28 years as a CPA for McGladrey, earned the respect and loyalty of his clients and business partners alike. Bill was extremely proud that he was instrumental in helping many small businesses start and succeed. After retiring in 1988, he served on the Natrona County Commission for eight years and Casper City Council for four years, being appointed Mayor in 2010. He served as a state representative on the national board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and was active in Civitans and many other civic organizations. Later in life, Bill was an active member of the Casper Senior Center, and was a member of the Meadowlarks Chorale. He also served on the Catholic State Diocesan Council, and was a Eucharistic minister. Bill was a dedicated father and husband. Dad showed us that you could be a man of accomplishment and contribute to your family and community, regardless of where or how you started. He was DIY before it was fashionable, and would take on any challenge, from fixing cars, building block fences, and remodeling basements. Bill was also an active hunter, boater, private pilot, fisherman, and camper. He, his wife, and boys enjoyed many camping trips, road trips to California and Nebraska, and backpacking in the mountains of Wyoming. Hunting trips with his sons and the Geise family became a cherished annual ritual. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Herman Brauer; sisters, Bonnie Judson and Lou Ada Brady; and good buddies and brothers-in-law, Charles Marsh and Glenn Geise. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on September 28th at Bustard's funeral home. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. on September 29th at St Anthony's Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the church. Following the reception, internment will be at the Oregon Trail Veteran's cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Central Wyoming Hospice at www.cwhp.org, or by mail to Central Wyoming Hospice & Transitions, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, WY 82601.
