Betty Zoe Ward

October 15, 1929 — June 5, 2019

Betty "Zoe" Ward Heaven gained an angel on the 5th of June, 2019. Now, Zoe is no longer suffering from the dreadful disease, Alzheimer's. Betty "Zoe" Smith was born the 15th of October 1929 to Ralph A. and Doris M. (Dutcher) Smith at the family farm near Dutcher Springs, not far from Ralston, WY. Zoe's father was a lineman for Ma Bell, so Zoe attended school all over the state of Wyoming, until Ralph was permanently located to Powell. Zoe graduated from Powell High School, then went on to NWCC where she met Robert F. Ward. Bob and Zoe married the 12th of June 1949 in her parents backyard. Out of this union came two daughters, Syljuana Marie in 1951 and Francine Kaye in 1954. Zoe was an active member of Eastern Star while living in Lander. Bob and Zoe were avid bridge players, then started square dancing with the Black Sheep and doing some round dancing. Bob and Zoe also joined the Meadowlarks and enjoyed going to Bible Study. Zoe fulfilled a life long dream by going to Casper College and getting her LPN in 1973. She also enjoyed working at both Keefe's Flowers and Grethes. She loved everything cat related, lilacs and peace roses. Zoe was an excellent seamstress, even though Bob had to instruct her on how to read a pattern. She even sewed all of her square dance dresses. She also liked to crochet, and loved to read and do jigsaw puzzles. Zoe is survived by her husband of 70 years Bob Ward of Casper. Her daughters Syljuana (EJ) Williams of Vail, AZ, and Francine (Richard) Weliever of Riverton, WY. Two Granddaughter's, Erika Weliever of Falcon, CO and Sarah (Hayden) Wick of Lusk, WY. Zoe was preceded in death by her parents, and infant brother Carl Clay, and numerous aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the Blue Envelope Health Fund.
