Betty Sue Clanton

September 6, 1935 — September 7, 2024

On September 7, 2024, Betty Sue Clanton went to be with the Lord. Because of accepting Christ as her Savior, she has gone to join her mother and father, her husband George, and her son Ross, who preceded her in death.

Betty Sue was born on September 6, 1935 in Mirando City, Texas. She was the daughter of Herbert and Dorothy Danmier and the sister of Herbert Danmier. After her father’s death, the family moved to Premont, Texas and then to Kingsville, TX where Betty attended King High School and Texas A & I University. In Kingsville, she met George Clanton who was training to be a Marine pilot. They were married on December 21, 1956. Betty finished college with a BS and MS in Education. She later became certified to teach special education when the family moved to Houston.

George and Betty Sue had three sons: Ross, Ray and James. Betty loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Since George was an engineer, the family lived in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Florida and New Zealand before moving to Wyoming in 1978. Ray married Kelly Suckut and they had three children: Ryan (Erin), Lisabeth (Kolby) and Isabella. James lives in Casper and has been a wonderful support for Betty. Betty always cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild, Wade.

After her sons were older, Betty began teaching. She taught sixth grade and secondary school before coming to Wyoming. She also was an educational consultant for four years. In Wyoming, Betty taught students with emotional and behavioral problems at Roosevelt High School and Kelly Walsh High School. Betty loved her students. She believed that all students had value and the majority of her students became productive members of society. She looked forward to their visits and hearing of their accomplishments. She always gave credit to the success of the program to the help of her teacher assistants, Fred Martinez and Dolly Rolle.

After retirement, Betty became a case manager for the Developmental Disabilities Division of the Department of Health. In this job she obtained services for children who are disabled. She served as a guardian and social security payee for several children.

Betty had only two hobbies, playing the piano and studying the Bible. She was mainly interested in spending time with friends and family. She considered herself rich because of the many good friends she had who enriched her life.

Betty’s celebration of life is planned for Thursday, September 12th at 1 pm at Liberty Baptist Church, 1203 S Oak Street, Casper, WY 82601. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Orphanages of Vision Beyond Borders, P.O. Box 2635, Casper, WY 82602.
