Barton Lee Kagie was born March 26, 1945 to Thomas A. Kagie and Lavona D. Kagie at the Natrona County Memorial Hospital in Casper, Wyoming. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Highland Park Community Church in Casper with Pastor Mike Fackler officiating. He was a part of the Thermopolis community, and was often found at the movie theaters, working or fixing things and joking and sharing laughs. His hobbies included swimming, roller skating, and playing with dogs. In 1965, Barton graduated from Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis and remained there after his family moved to Casper. Soon after, he began working in the oil fields. In 1971, he married Marie Kraft of Manderson, Wyoming. They had their first child, William in Thermopolis, Wyoming and then moved to Casper, Wyoming where they had their second child, Melissa. However, the call of the Big Horn Basin was still in his blood, so he moved his family to Worland, Wyoming while continuing to work in the oil field. In 1986, Barton and Marie divorced and soon after he moved back to Casper, Wyoming. It was during this time that he transitioned from working in the oil fields to driving trucks. A few years later he met Betty Summers of Powell, Wyoming. The couple married in the summer of 1989 and were married for 26 years until her death in the fall of 2015. Barton is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Norman, and his second wife Betty. He is survived by his son William (Hollie) of Virginia, and grandchildren Taylor and Ashton, and his daughter Melissa (Wade) Dacar of Washington, and grandchildren Ethan and Gabrielle. He is also survived by his sister JoAnn (Charles) Weckwerth of Wyoming, sister-in-law Denise Kagie of Montana, three nieces, one nephew, and numerous cousins. Barton loved people and easily made friends wherever he lived. His sense of humor and charismatic personality drew people to him. His favorite pastime was enjoying coffee and socializing with his many friends. He always had fond memories of his youth in Thermopolis where he knew just about everyone and remembered them even in his later years. For the last few years of his life he continued to make friends at Shepard of the Valley Care Center. While there, he was surrounded by friends and thoughtful caregivers who treated him more like family than a friend. Barton died on April 13, 2018 at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center.
