Avis Palmer

November 26, 1935 — October 9, 2015

Wyoming native Avis Palmer died in her sleep Friday, Oct. 9, 2015. Born Nov. 26, 1935 in Gillette, Avis was the second of eight children of Bessie McGrath Hunt and Corlis Hunt. She was raised in Gillette and attended Casper College. She married Neale A. Palmer in 1956. Avis was a homemaker for many years, ensuring that her three daughters were frequently clothed in matching hand-made dresses, painting with her favorite TriChem oil paints, gardening, making unique hand-made Christmas ornaments and hundreds of pounds of fudge for her extended family for many years, and generally looking out for the wellbeing of all those around her without judgment. In 1978, she became a medical transcriptionist for the Radiology Department of Wyoming Medical Center, and retired from that position after 22 years, saying she would never again use an alarm clock. She is survived by her three daughters, Dee Dee (Stan) Lore, Leslie Palmer, and Pam (Brian) Davis; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Lenard Hunt (Vickie); sisters, June Edwards (Jack), Harriet Richens, Doris Griego, and Rita Pohl; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents; her brother, Leland; sister, Mavis; and husband, Neale; preceded her in death. Services will be held Nov. 14, at 1 p.m., Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Gillette, WY. Memorials can be sent to the Blue Envelope Health Fund, P.O. Box 2177, Casper, WY 82602 or to Cal Farley's Boys Home, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.
