Avery Hill

Avery Lewis Hill was born on January 24, 1923 to Seth Ezra Hill and Mary Elsie Hill (Shell) in Zalma, Missouri. Avery passed on January 26th in his home. He had celebrated his 97th birthday two days prior to his passing and was in the place he loved the most, his home.

He lived the life of a farm boy until he was 18. He then moved to Alton, Illinois where he met the love of his life, Helen Marguerite Davis. They were married at the Bullinger County Courthouse in Marble Hill, Missouri on March 2, 1942. They were married for 75 years until the death of his beloved wife, Helen in 2017. Their love story is a favorite of all of his family.

He worked as a carpenter from 1940 to 1942 and served with the Army Corp. of engineers in Africa and Europe in World War II (1943-1945). In 1947, he moved to Casper, Wyoming to begin a 33-year career with Amoco Oil Refinery formerly the Standard Oil Refinery. After retirement, he volunteered for 15 1/2 years with the National County Sheriff’s Department and the Veterans Memorial Museum. He enjoyed camping, boating, water skiing, fishing, bowling, rock hunting, making jewelry, watching Western movies, especially if Audie Murphy was the star, and most of all traveling throughout the United States in their motor home. His. enjoyment of all these activities was always there, but his paramount love was his wife, his family and his home. In August 2019, a family reunion was held in Casper with 46 family members in attendance. There was never a doubt that he loved every minute with his family that weekend.

Avery was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Kathy, and 7 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Ronda McCarthy, four grandchildren, Shannon McCarthy, Tara McCarthy Sanford, Kirk Smith, and Kellie Smith Doran. He is further survived by great grandchildren, Colton McCarthy, Karly McCarthy, Carter Sanford, Avery Sanford, Jacob Kirby, Madison Fiedler, Noah Fiedler, Drew Fiedler, Teagan Doran and Christian Smith. His great grandchildren are Ezekiel McCarthy, JayceeRae Gunnells, Benson McCarthy, Petra Fiedler and a new baby due in February. He is further survived by four siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family

Avery will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a lovely man who never met a stranger and embraced life to the fullest.
