Andrew Riley

January 17, 1929 — January 17, 2016

"I exist as I am and that is enough." W. Whitman Andy peacefully went to be with our Lord on his 87th Birthday this past Sunday. Immediate family members preceding him in death were his parents, Buck and Minnie Riley; brothers, Baby GW and Floyd, Lloyd Delbert, and Curtis Eugene; sisters, Anna Belle Franks and Mae Francis Hobgood; also, several nieces and nephews. The seventh child in a large family of nine children, Andrews surviving siblings are, Lucille Welch of Snyder, TX and Shirley Franks of Ada, Ok; many nieces, nephews; and extended family members. Andy resided in the Casper and Midwest area for over 40 years. Lovingly referred to by many as "Gump" before the movie was ever thought of, "Uncle Andy", "Mr. Riley" or just plain "Andy". Born in Vanoss, OK, the doctor traveled to the family home to attend to his birth. Money was short in those days, so a pig was taken as payment for the doctor's medical services. The Love and Laughter of his family, things that money can't buy, more than made up for any financial inadequacies in those days. They had each other. Besides the gift of Andy himself, god bestowed on him a natural sense of rhythm, and as a small boy he was forever tapping his feet or beating on an old tin can. The guitar and harmonica eventually became the loves of his life, his entertainment and constant companions. Andy had an ear for music and could pick up and play either instrument by merely listening. Family and friends would gather and delight in his music and the sing alongs the family would hold. Andy, a longtime client of Nowcap Services thrived in his independence until the summer before last when he was moved into a group home. Up until that time, he was continually walking. CY Avenue sometimes, 2nd Street, and the Washington Park area. He loved his squirrels (Toby) in particular, ALL animals, feeding the birds and fishing. A patient soul, the most precious of us all, Andy enriched the lives of those he touched. A man of few words he taught us by his actions. His gentle soul reflected Perseverance in times of strife, Acceptance of life on life's terms, Joy in the small things life had to offer, Honesty, Integrity, Humbleness, Forgiveness, Unconditional Love and Devotion to his family. One of Gods very special lambs, Andy's family and friends find peace and comfort in knowing that he will be forever in Gods light. We would especially like to thank his friends and staff at Nowcap, Hospice, and the Shepherd of the Valley for the care and compassion, support and friendship they gave to him. A reflection of Andy's life will be held at Bustards Funeral home on Friday, the 29th of January at 3:00pm. We would like to welcome anyone who would like to share in his memory.
